My daughter asked for a coffee table that would allow her to slide some antique printer typesetting trays under a display top. So, when they ask, I deliver. The complexity is that I live in Michigan and she is in Florida. So, I had to build it so I could knock it down and she can stain, finish and assemble.

I have a couple grandaughters that are dancers. One, is a mighty Tap Dancer. She, and the groups she dances with, are called upon to do demo’s and shows where they need a portable tap floor. Also, they often need something at home. There are vendors that sell a variety of portable tap boards that tend to be pricey. While this is hardly a woodworking project, I have made a number of these boards that I thought I would write it down. I make them in batches, and only for her team. While they are easy, they take a lot of space, and a lot of finishing time. I really have no interest in going into “production”. So, I’ll do a dozen or so at a time a couple times a year.

We finally decided to add a bookcase and tv unit to the family room. One of the biggest decisions for the project was, how big a TV? We decided on 65″ as the max. It seemed to give us the best compromise of seating distance.
The wall we were using is 130″ from corner to edge of existing trim. This allowed me to design three 20″ wide bookcases and a 61″ wide TV center. The TV center has four 30″ low shelves and one 61″ upper shelf. There is also an equipment shelf with sliding doors to hide all the wires. I moved the cable, power and LAN outlets to all terminate inside the equipment shelf. Kim is pleased that all wires are hidden from view.

Kim saw some Christmas Trees like this online and asked, “You can make this for us, right”? Sure, I can. And there you have it. The new fangled Christmas Tree project was underway. It is a very simple design, yet truly more attractive than I thought it would be. I planned out the height and width, determining the “branches” length and spacing to achieve the outcome. Votive candles, ornaments and littl gifts adorn every branch. Kim puts numerous little gifts in the tree so the grandkids can grab something any time they are over.

There are nights that Kim just can’t get comfortable in bed without having to contort into a wild position that ends with one of her feet on my pillow. On those nights, I’ll let her have the entire bed. Even though we have unused bedrooms upstairs, I don’t like being that far away from her, and have never slept up there since we built the main floor master bedroom addition. I would just sleep on the couch in the family room, just outside our bedroom.
